The defensive captain has earned his contract. He's been a mainstay in the Colts defense and has helped them get to two Super Bowls in 2006 and 2009.
The Philadelphia Eagles have agreed to a contract with Fullback Leonard Weaver that will make him the highest paid at the position.
The deal is agreed to in principle by both side, and just needs to be signed later on today. Weaver will be placing his signature on a three-year, $11 million deal with $6.5 guaranteed.
You got to give the Eagles credit for taking care of Weaver. He was a huge part of their playoff run in 2009, and had he not received a long term contract, would have been playing under a Restricted Free Agent Tender.
The Detroit Lions have signed help for Matt Stafford. The Lions got their young quarterback Nate Burleson on a five-years, $25 million. $11 million guaranteed.
We'll let that sink in for a few moments. This is going to turn out to be a bad contract for the Lions. Burleson has had one season of more than 1,000 yards production and, last time I checked, that isn't worth $5 million per year on average and $11 million guaranteed.
They have also signed free agent Kyle Vanden Bosch. It's a four-year, $26 million contract, including $10 million in first-year guarantees.
Vanden Bosch has seen lower production since Haynesworth left last year, and has been hampered by injuries on top of that. The Lions could come out of free agency 2010 with two bad contracts.
The New Orleans Saints are on the verge of making Jahri Evans one of the highest paid guards in NFL history.
Evans was tendered by the team at the highest level earlier this week, but the Saints want to work out a long term deal.
The Saints need to be aggressive to keep him in New Orleans because at 26 years old, it's not out of the question that some team would be willing to give up a first and third round pick to get him.
