The Lions Will Compete Sooner Than You Think

"Objects in the mirror are closer than they appear," would aptly describe the Detroit Lions. They have talented players, they have a good coaching staff and they've made noticeable progress even though you might not get that from the win-loss standings.

Like every other team in the league the Lions have their holes but the good news is they appear to have the leadership in place to address these issues.

The Anchor of this team is Matthew Stafford. He can make every NFL throw. He is not overwhelmed by the game and judging by his reaction from his 5-pick game he has a genuine desire to get better.

This is his first year so if he is truly committed to perfecting his craft the Lions can do a lot of damage. The Minnesota Vikings mortgaged their future with Favre so once he is gone they will likely experience a significant drop off.

The Green Bay Packers with Aaron Rodgers and the Chicago Bears with Jay Cutler are both good but they have issues of their own.

If the Lions can shore up the O-line and get a consistent running game they can be a major player in the NFC north faster than many think.
