NFL Will Regret Putting a Team in L.A.

According to Michael Bidwill, just one of the Bidwill clowns attempting to run the Cardinals out in Arizona, the NFL is still putting a heavy priority on getting an NFL team in Los Angeles, California. Or, you know, L.A.

It sounds like a great idea on the surface. Putting a team in the nation's second-largest market (other than New York) must mean good attendance, great fan support, and of course, money. Lots and lots of money. Unfortunately, that's not the way it has worked in the past.

Two other franchises, the Raiders and Rams, tried their hand in L.A., but eventually were forced to leave. If putting a team in L.A. is such a wonderful idea, why wouldn't one of those teams stayed put? One team leaving could be for any reason, there's really no telling. However two teams leaving shows a lack of interest in football out in L.A.

L.A., for the most part, is a place of movie stars and activists who have other interests rather than sports. Let's also not forget that L.A. had a football team, and lost it. That being the AFL's Los Angeles Avengers. Before you dispute this saying "well the whole league folded," don't forget that the Avengers left L.A. even before the league went under.

The fan support just isn't there. L.A. likes baseball, and they love basketball, but they just don't like football all that much. It would be like putting a team in Mexico and expecting to compete with soccer (or Futbol) -- it just will never happen.

So give it up NFL, the idea of a team, even a floundering team like the Jaguars, ever working out in L.A. is a pipe-dream.
