The author of the article, Terry Pluto, doesn't name an outright source, but does say that the Cleveland coaching staff is unhappy with Rogers tendency to be out of position and "roam freely" rather than cover the gap (or "gaps" in his large case) he is assigned to.
With the size and strength that Rogers possesses, there should be quite a few phone calls made to the Cleveland front office to find out the asking price at the very least.
He would be a perfect guy to sure up the middle of a team still transitioning to a 3-4 defensive base package. Denver could be a place that would fit for Rogers should a trade happen, but with the aforementioned positioning problems, his coachability comes into play.
Can he coincide with Josh McDaniels and do what's asked of him?
I know were all sick of hearing it (almost more than Brett Favre), but this is where the Eagles talks will come into play.
Mike Holmgren and the Browns have already been rumored to have discussions about the Eagles and their quarterbacks, but Andy Reid is adamant that if you're calling about Donovan McNabb, you might as well not waste your energy punching the numbers, but the Eagles are a team in need of some defensive line help.
The Browns have freed up about $10 million in cap space by moving Corey Williams and Hank Fraley, and are in need of a quarterback. Kevin Kolb is a guy that the Eagles would be willing to move, and a guy that could help the Browns quarterback needs.
But lets just venture into that realm that Andy Reid is so sure that he won't enter. I'm talking about Donovan McNabb.
Seemingly everyone in and around Philadelphia is ready to move McNabb and start the Kolb era. It's even been rumored that the front office is in favor of this, but Andy Reid will allow no such thing to occur. Who's to say it's nothing but a smokescreen from Any Reid to sweeten the deals of potential trade partners?
It's no secret that the Eagles need defensive line help. Outside of Trent Cole and Broderick Bunkley, there's much to be desired.
The Eagles could potentially move Donovan McNabb, the number 24 pick in April's Draft, along with a filler player (Kevin Curtis) or picks to the Cleveland Browns seventh overall selection, Shaun Rogers and a fourth or fifth round selection.
This would allow the Eagles to start Kevin Kolb, fill their hole on the defensive line, and draft to fill the gaping hole at safety with a guy such as Eric Berry.
Not so fast. Donovan McNabb has one year left on his contract, so unless he will agree to sign an extension with the team he is traded to, he's staying put. Because no team will trade what the Eagles would require for McNabb for a one-year rental, and there's nothing to suggest that McNabb would want to leave a perennial contender in Philadelphia for a team in the beginning stages of rebuilding.
The Eagles are slimon the defensive line, but are in heavier need of a defensive end rather than an interior lineman. Especially with them being pretty fond of a Broderick Bunkley, Mike Patterson, and Trevor Laws rotation.
