They cut LaDainian Tomlinson, arguably one of the best running backs of all time while he was in his prime, and then they appeared ready to let his obvious replacement, Darren Sproles, walk in free agency.
But now they've come to their senses and have placed a first and third round tender on Sproles to keep him in 2010 for a little over $7 million.
It's the obvious right move for this team, and it can only get better if they actually sit down and figure out an extension for Sproles.
With a bigger back to spell him, Sproles could have a Brian Westbrook-type impact on the Chargers.
