Is Drew Brees a Hall of Fame Candidate After Super Bowl Win?

When I think of Drew Brees, I don't think about a Hall of Fame guy like I do when I think about Brett Favre or Peyton Manning, but perhaps that's not even fair to start off with. Those guys are two of the best to ever play, so comparing him to either of them would be selling him short.

I went and looked up his career stats before writing this, and it got me thinking that maybe Brees truly is a Hall of Fame candidate. In 121 starts, Brees has 30,646 yards, 202 touchdowns, 110 interceptions, has completed nearly 65 percent of his passes, and has a 91.9 career quarterback rating.

He also boasts a .557 career win percentage. It's not too impressive on the surface, but when you consider that he came in to a rebuilding San Diego team in 2001 and built the foundation for them to be as successful as they are today, as well as turning around a New Orleans Saints team that was an absolute joke before he got there.

Now, in only four years, he's brought one of the (historically) worst franchises to the promised land and is still partying in the French Quarter.

A key in determining whether or not a player is deserving of the Hall of Fame is comparing his numbers and situation to that of a sure-fire Hall of Famer. His closest Hall of Fame comparison, and still active, is Tom Brady.

Brady will get in mainly because of the three rings on his fingers, but his stats are eerily similar to Brees.

Brady boasts 30,844 yards in 127 career starts, 225 touchdowns, 91 interceptions, has completed just over 63 percent of his passes, and has a 93.3 career quarterback rating. His win percentage is significantly higher, but he's also played on a significantly better team throughout his career.

So if Brees were to retire today, would he be a Hall of Famer? I'm not so sure about that, but he would certainly be a guy on the short list.

If his career continues, for even just a few more years, as it has over the past four years, I do believe that he will, one day, be in the Hall of Fame. He's probably a guy who will have to wait a decade or so before he gets in, but he will eventually have his bust in Canton.
