Jim Caldwell, however, does not share the same nervousness that many Colts' fans do, but he may just be playing his role as the head football coach.
The most recent reports are that cornerback Jarraud powers had surgery to correct an internal fixation of his fractured left foot after the Baltimore Ravens playoff game.
On Friday, Jim Caldwell said that he was optimistic about both Freeney and Powers, but said that both Freeney and Powers may be limited and give way to Raheem Brock and Jacob Lacey respectively.
"He's (Freeney) trending in the right direction," Caldwell said. "He's getting better, but we'll see. It's still a day-to-day situation."
Freeney, if active, will probably play on the obvious passing downs (which is almost all downs when playing New Orleans).
The most obvious rotation would be to put Raheem Brock at weak-side with Robert Mathis staying on the strong-side on first and second downs. Then bringing in Freeney on passing and third downs, bumping Brock inside to defensive tackle and keeping Mathis at his usual strong-side position.
Raheem Brock will assume a huge role in this game. He will be asked to step up huge in this big-time game, and step in as an every down lineman.
I know Jim Caldwell is the head coach, and that he has to be optimistic, but if I'm the Colts, I'm worried. Defense is the last place you want to be weak at against this high-powered New Orleans offense.
The Colts have about 52 hours to get Freeney and Powers as rested and ready to play as possible. Time is running out.
