Chicago Bears Promote Rod Marinelli to Defensive Coordinator

According to 670 The Score, a popular sports radio station centered in Chicago, Rod Marinelli has been called upon to be the new defensive coordinator after serving as the defensive line coach for one season in 2009.

Marinelli is succeeded by Eric Washington as defensive line coach.

Marinelli was previously the Head Coach in Detroit for the Lions from 2006 to 2008. Mike Martz, who served under Marinelli in Detroit as offensive coordinator, was hired last week by the Bears for the same position.

Jerry Angelo and Lovie Smith said they wanted to finalize the staff before the Super Bowl this Sunday, and they got that done today. Shane Day was also hired as the quarterbacks coach today.
