Will Signing Tomlinson Help Convince Brett Favre to Return?

Ladainian Tomlinson sat down for dinner Wednesday evening with Vikings staff and executives, and he feels that he may sign with the club Thursday if all goes well.

Tomlinson said that "he heard what he liked to hear" and that playing with Brett Favre would be a "blast", but will he get that opportunity?

However, Tomlinson is scheduled to meet with the Jets on Friday, which means he'll be leaving Minnesota without a contract, but there remains a good chance he ends up in Minnesota.

Meanwhile, Brett Favre had his best statistical season in 2009, as a 40 year-old, and has proved all the critics wrong. He can still play.

To have a chance to play while handing off to Adrian Peterson is enough to make you want to keep playing, but will the addition of Tomlinson make the decision even easier for Favre.

Favre took a beating in the NFC Championship game against the New Orleans Saints, despite there being some cheap shots, but that's a different story.

Tomlinson adds an extra dynamic to the Vikings offense. One that, despite how good Chester Taylor was, will be an improvement over him. Tomlinson is willing to be the third down back, and play a back-seat role to Adrian Peterson.

Brett Favre got oh so close last year, but the game was given away with fumbles. There's no question the Vikings outplayed the Saints, but turnovers will kill a team. When you step back and take a look at the Vikings, they scream Super Bowl contender, and the addition of Tomlinson makes that scream even louder.

Brett Favre should have one last "hoo-rah" and then ride off into the sunset. There's no question that he can still play, and will compete for another Super Bowl in 2010. Brad Childress put no timeline on when he wants an answer, but if Tomlinson chooses the Vikings, expect to see number 4 under center come 2010.
