Titans' Chris Johnson to See Fewer Snaps in 2010

Titans' running back Chris Johnson won't be getting his big pay day that he had hoped for, nor will he get as much on field action as he has come accustomed to.

The Titans beat writer, Gary Eastwick, reports that Johnson's snaps will be cut down in 2010 to help preserve the young running back despite him only missing one game in his two seasons in the NFL.

In 2009, Chris Johnson carried the ball 358 times and also added 50 receptions meaning that he touched the ball 408 times on offense turning LenDale White and Javon Ringer into bodies on the sideline.

White had 64 carries in 2009 while Ringer only had eight, but showed flashes of what he did in college in those few snaps.

I do understand wanting to try and preserve a guys career, but I think it will be hard for the Titans to keep the NFL's best running back off the field.

Johnson set the NFL's single-season yards from scrimmage record (2509) previously held by Marshall Faulk, and came within 99 yards of Erick Dickerson for the NFL's single-season rushing yardage record.

Neither of the two guys behind Johnson, LenDale White or Javon Ringer, will provide you with numbers close to that. The Titans will find themselves back at 0-6 to start the year if they take their best player off the field.
