Ravens Plan On Keeping Running Back Willis McGahee

Jason La Canfora is reporting via Twitter that the Baltimore Ravens intend to keep running back Willis McGahee, despite his $3.6 million salary.

"Ravens committed to retaining RB Willis McGahee despite his $3.6M salary and complimentary role," La Canfora writes. "Team loves Ray Rice/McGahee tandem."

See, I told you.

McGahee is clearly the second back on this team behind Ray Rice, but he's a valuable asset who should not be cast aside because he's a little overpaid. He put in his time as this team's starting running back and did an admirable job.

He's better as a complement to Rice and in today's NFL, a two-back system is almost a necessity.

The Ravens have had a very good running game for a couple years now, and with Rice only getting better with experience, the running game will only get better. Rice could take some more carries away from McGahee, but he's effective when he gets the ball, and I think he'll keep getting his fair share.

Too often teams are just worried about the bottom line, so it's good to see that even a smaller market like Baltimore is willing to eat up some money in an uncapped season all in the effort to get into the playoffs and beyond.
