Dolphins' Ronnie Brown Should Be Ready for Training Camp

Lisfranc fractures have not only slowed down, but have ended a couple running back's careers. Fortunately for Ronnie Brown, the NFL has learned its way around these sort of injuries and it's nothing more than a large nuisance rather than a potential career death sentence.

Brown, however, seems to be recovering quicker than anyone expected.

"I know I want to be in training camp," Brown told Mike Berardino of the Sun Sentinel. "I think that's a goal that's very, very attainable."

It's great news for the Dolphins, considering Brown is by far their best player. He is scheduled to make $5 million this season and is worth every penny. He says he would like to stay in Miami, and I'd be incredibly shocked if that doesn't happen.

Ricky Williams has already said that 2010 will be his last season, so the situation becomes a no-brainer for the Dolphins. Brown is such a vital part of their offense that he's just as valuable, if not more valuable, than quarterback Chad Henne.

I expect that the Dolphins will pay Brown whatever he asks for, and that he'll receive something like a four or five year extension either this offseason or the next. The Dolphins will also most likely target a running back in the middle of the draft in an effort to replace Williams next season.

Brown will be a vital part of this team moving forward, and with him in the mix and healthy this season, should be looked at as legitimate contenders in the AFC East.
