Antrel Rolle Won't Be Back in Arizona Next Season

A lot of NFL teams will employ a back-heavy contract with the intention of redoing said contract once the base salary gets a bit crazy, or simply parting ways with the player.

In Antrel Rolle's case, it will result in him being released from the Arizona Cardinals.

He's due to make $8.1 million in 2010 in base salary, and is due another $4 million in a roster bonus next week.

In short, it means Rolle will only be an Arizona Cardinal for about another week.

If he sticks around in 2010 and receives his salary and roster bonus, that would mean the Cardinals would owe him $12 million -- an amount that even the best safeties in the league aren't approaching, much less Rolle who has been good, but hasn't lived up to his eighth overall selection in 2005.

Even Darren Ubran, a writer for the Arizona Cardinals official website, believes that Rolle will get released.

And with Rolle saying he won't take a pay cut, it seems like he would welcome his release. He might not get overpaid by the Cardinals, but in the thin free agent market, someone will throw more money at him than he deserves.
