With Winfield out the Lions may take flight

The Lions are definitely the underdogs going into Sunday's match versus the Vikings, but they believe conditions are right for a shocking upset.

They will need a herculean effort on defense that starts with shutting down Adrian Peterson.

The Lions would much rather take their chances with Brett Favre than allowing Peterson to gash them all day. Who wouldn't?

On offense the Lions believe Calvin Johnson can wreak havoc in a Vikings secondary that will be without all-pro corner, Antoine Winfield, who has missed a couple of weeks with a right foot injury.

Last week in Seattle marked the first time the Lions offensive starters have been healthy and on the field. Look for some early quick strikes to loosen up the Vikings defense, mixed with a lot of running.

The Lions know running will be tough against the stout Vikings defense, but it serves to slow down the pass rush and keep the Vikings honest.

The bottom line here is a lot of things have to go right in order for the Lions to pull off a shocker, but they believe they can do it, and the rule of any given Sunday still applies.
