NFL Power Rankings: Week Eight

Here are the Power Rankings following play in Week Eight. This is the first installment. The power rankings are derived using a unique formula putting emphasis on all facets of the game with certain categories having more impact on your team than other categories. Division games are important, as well as winning on the road.

The Formula = (Winning % X .35) + (Average Points For X .05) + (Net Points X .11) + (Home Win % X .04) + (Road Win % X .09) + (Division Win % X .10) + (Win % Last 5 X .22) + (Yards For X .01) + ((100-yards Against) X .03)

1. New Orleans Saints (LW: 3) - 92.547

The Saints faced a tough test Monday night in division foe, Atlanta, but even with a late push by the Falcons, the Saints were abl to hold on. Pierre Thomas is running like a top running back in this league. Add that to this passing game and trouble is brewing for the rest of the league.

2. Indianapolis Colts (LW: 1) - 91.338

Tough test against the 49ers at home this weekend, but the Colts were able to pull it out. They keep scores close, but have pulled them all out thus far, but if this continues, someone's going to take advantage.

3. Minnesota Vikings (LW: 4) - 75.210

The Minnesota Vikings are a very scary football team. Brett Favre has his "revenge" on Green Bay, so no we all can let that go and let him focus on the rest of the season and doing what he does best. Win.

4. Denver Broncos (LW: 2) - 72.630

A beatdown at the hands of the Ravens, but it's not as bad as it looks, Denver. You're 6-1, tops in the division, and you lost to a very good football team coming off an extra week of preperation. Don't worry, yet.

5. Philadelphia Eagles (LW: 8) - 68.280

Two weeks removed from an embarassing loss to the Oakland Raiders, the Eagles took on two division opponents. They beat the Redskins on Monday night and wiped the floor with the Giants this past weekend. This is a true test and things will be looking good if they can top the Cowboys this Sunday to complete a 3-game stretch against the division.

6. New England Patriots (LW: 5) - 65.491

Didn't play this past week, so not much to judge off of. Tom Brady has been up and down all season, but he's looking better week after week. If the Patriots can get on a roll entering the playoffs, this is a scary team.

7. Cincinnati Bengals (LW: 6) - 64.825

A big-time win over the Bears two weeks ago, another true test for the Bengals comes again this weekend. They got Baltimore at home fresh of a huge confidence-boosting win, and then travel to Pittsburgh. Two tough divisional games that, if the Bengals win, should help them ease back into the playoffs.

8. Pittsburgh Steelers (LW:10) - 58.062

A tough team to get a clear picture of. They stole a game against Minnesota at home, and hasn't really beaten anybody of signifigance yet. Tough test as they travel to Denver, who is certainly looking to bounce back off of their first loss of the season.

9. Dallas Cowboys (LW: 13) - 56.556

Are they good, or is their record a product of a weak schedule? Who know's, but regardless, the Cowboys are playing some good football the past three weeks. We'll see if they're for real when they travel to Philadelphia for a divisonal game. We all remember what happened last time Dallas traveled to Philly.

10. Houston Texans (LW: 14) - 54.710

At 5-3 mid-way through the 2009 season, the Texans are poised to make their first playoff berth in the history of the franchise. Steve Slaton was benched this past weekend, and Ryan Moats put on a show. Who will we see in the coming weeks? Moats or Slaton? No matter who it is, they'll need to have huge impacts to make up for the loss of very-talented tight end, Owen Daniels.

11. Green Bay Packers (LW: 9) - 51.278

12. San Diego Chargers (LW: 18) - 50.060

13. New York Giants (LW: 7) - 48.454

14. Arizona Cardinals (LW: 11) - 47.244

15. Baltimore Ravens (LW: 16) - 45.398

16. Chicago Bears (LW: 19) - 43.463

17. Miami Dolphins (LW: 21) - 40.559

18. Atlanta Falcons (LW: 12) - 38.731

19. New York Jets (LW: 15) - 34.954

20. Carolina Panthers (LW: 23) - 33.325

21. San Francisco 49ers (LW: 17) - 31.796

22. Jacksonville Jaguars (LW: 20) - 29.639

23. Buffalo Bills (LW: 22) - 20.941

24. Seattle Seahawks (LW: 24) - 15.713

25. Washington Redskins (LW: 25) - 11.583

26. Oakland Raiders (LW: 26) - (-0.178)

27. Kansas City Chiefs (LW: 27) - (-1.185)

28. Tennessee Titans (LW: 31) - (-2.186)

29. Detroit Lions (LW: 28) - (-4.072)

30. St. Louis Rams (LW: 32) - (-10.111)

31. Cleveland Browns (LW: 29) - (-10.407)

32. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (LW: 30) - (-16.654)
