Jeff Garcia Contacted By Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers have reportedly made contact with free agent quarterback, Jeff Garcia, and may sign him as early as Tuesday.

Ben Roethlisberger went down in overtime of a 27-24 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday. Charlie Batch came in in relief, but is now having surgery on his wrist, and may be lost for the season, leaving only Roethlisberger and an inexperienced Dennis Dixon on the roster.

Jeff Garcia has plenty of experience at 39 years old.

The 10 years veteran has most recently played in Philadelphia, where he signed after being cut by the Oakland Raiders, to back up Kevin Kolb in an insurance role when the Eagles lost Donovan McNabb for two games.

Garcia's stint was short, and was let go as soon as McNabb was healthy enough to become the starter again.

The Steelers will hold a workout for Garcia on Tuesday which means a signing, if the Steelers opt to do so, should come late Tuesday or early Wednesday in order to give ample time to get acclimated to the team and get ready to possibly play.

Roethlisberger has reportedly told teammates and coaches that he feels fine, and should be all ready to go when the Steelers play the Baltimore Ravens this weekend.

While Garcia is no pushover, he is also not a starter at this point in his career and should only expect to gain roles similar to this one, and the on he got in Philadelphia.

He's simply a relief role guy, but can still get it done in short stints while standing in for injuries.
