Week Seven Power Rankings

Here are the Power Rankings following play in Week Seven. This is the first installment. The power rankings are derived using a unique formula putting emphasis on all facets of the game with certain categories having more impact on your team than other categories. Division games are important, as well as winning on the road.

The Formula = (Winning % X .35) + (Average Points For X .05) + (Net Points X .11) + (Home Win % X .04) + (Road Win % X .09) + (Division Win % X .10) + (Win % Last 5 X .22) + (Yards For X .02) + ((100-yards Against) X .02)

1. Indianapolis Colts - 96.926

Fresh off a shellacking of the hapless St. Louis Rams, who like their opponents this Sunday did in 2008, are facing a win less season. Peyton is once again in the MVP race and he has the Colts rolling.

2. Denver Broncos - 92.604

Seven weeks into the season, Josh McDaniels is still proving the Broncos made the right decision, and that so did he. Kyle Orton doesn't look too bad, huh? Neither does that Brandon Marshall character, and the defense is alright too. Winning fixes everything.

3. New Orleans Saints - 88.607

They stole one in Miami. The Dolphins had the undefeated Saints on the ropes and let it all slip away. Not to take anything away from the Saints, they got the job done, but if it were not for the downright terrible play from the Dolphins late, they would have themselves a loss.

4. Minnesota Vikings - 78.667

This seems about right for the Vikings. I mean, 4th in meaningless power rankings is the least we can do after the burglary. Tripping? If that call is not made, Brett Favre doesn't fumble, the Vikings scored on the play and take the lead and ultimately hold on. Robbery.

5. New England Patriots - 71.408

Tom Brady gets better and better with each passing week. The run game is still the weakness, and outside of Brandon Meriweather, the secondary is way below average, but who cares when you have the type of receiving weapons Brady has to work with.

6. Cincinnati Bengals - 70.697

Is there any doubt that this is a 100 percent completely different team once Carson Palmer steps behind center? Cedric Benson is running like a man possessed and shows no signs of slowing down. Carson should be, but is not, in MVP talks from what I've heard, yet.

7. New York Giants - 69.309

Uh-oh New York. A 5-0 start had everyone feeling good about the Giants, but two straight losses took those feelings and stomped on them. Can Coughlin get this team back on track? Brandon Jacobs is clearly not running as he did last year, and if he doesn't, the Giants are in trouble.

8. Philadelphia Eagles - 64.740

After an embarrassing loss at the hands of the Oakland Raiders, the Eagles rebounded in their first NFC East action of the year last night. The thing that has got to make Philly fans sick is the fact that if you don't lay the egg against Oakland, You're 5-1 (instead of 4-2) and you're sitting pretty atop the East.

9. Green Bay Packers - 64.472

A flaw in the formula? Maybe, but the Packers still aren't a team to sleep on. If the Packers can sure up the offensive line troubles, they can, and will be a force to be reckoned with in the NFC. Hopefully, for the rest of the league at least, that doesn't happen.

10. Pittsburgh Steelers - 63.802

Highway robbery. That's how the Steelers pulled it out against the Vikings. They don't win pretty, but they win. That's really all that matters. The running game could use a little suring up, but outside of that, the defending champions are solid.

11. Arizona Cardinals - 62.468

What a win for the Cardinals on Sunday night. Sitting at 1-2 the Cardinals have ripped off 3 straight and find themselves atop the NFC West again.

12. Atlanta Falcons - 59.132

A very disappointing loss at the hands of the Dallas Cowboys, but they are still 4-2 and are still in the thick of the playoff race. Michael Turner needs to get this team rolling again.

13. Dallas Cowboys - 54.371

A fantastic win, and a fantastic outing from Miles Austin for his second consecutive 200 yard game. If the Cowboys can continue to protect Romo, he can continue to find Austin.

14. Houston Texans - 50.787

A different Houston team shows up each week. They're sitting at 4-3, second in the AFC South, but all eyes are on Andre Johnson's chest in Houston.

15. New York Jets - 48.436

They won when they were supposed to this past weekend, but they were unable to pull that off against Buffalo two weeks ago. Will Mark Sanchez hit the rookie wall?

16. Baltimore Ravens - 45.875

After starting 3-0 and looking to be one of the leagues best, they've lost three straight. They're coming fresh off a bye-week looking to get back on track.

17. San Francisco 49ers - 45.229

The former number one overall pick, Alex Smith, makes his 49er debut, again. Michael Crabtree made his, and wasn't spectacular, but he was definitely an upgrade.

18. San Diego Chargers - 44.015

This team is one that makes you want to pull out your hair, fan or not. They have so much talent, but always seem to be ill-prepared. That's when you begin to look to the coaching.

19. Chicago Bears - 43.023

This team is right where I thought they'd be. They were a .500 team with Kyle Orton, and Jay Cutler isn't a big enough addition to win games on his own. They mat regret that trade later.

20. Jacksonville Jaguars - 42.955

May be one of the most inconsistent teams in the NFL. Maurice Jones-Drew followed through with his words and carried this team to victory. He's going to need some help as the season carries on.

21. Miami Dolphins - 35.386

Okay, I know the Saints have a good offense, but a 21 point lead should be safe against anybody. Mental mistakes and dropped balls cost this team a victory.

22. Buffalo Bills - 31.242

Ryan Fitzpatrick has this team on a two-game win streak, and he'll get the starting nod once again this week. Can he work the magic and get the Bills back to .500?

23. Carolina Panthers - 27.553

Another case of high expectations, followed by pure disappointment in Carolina, despite having maybe the best tandem at running back in the NFL. It's time to see Delhomme hit the bench.

24. Seattle Seahawks - 25.17

Coming out of a bye, but they still have a lot to work on. Matt Hasselbeck is clearly the best option for this year, but it's time to start thinking about a successor.

25. Washington Redskins - 16.377

They've played one team with a winning record, and that only happened last night against the Eagles. Bad news, they're still 2-4. Lot to work on in the nations capital.

26. Oakland Raiders - 8.408

It's taken long enough, but Jamarcus Russell was finally benched. Yet, Russell still find enough time to have a grand time on the sideline. He was smiling and laughing, but certainly not acting like a man who just got benched.

27. Kansas City Chiefs - 4.162

Hard to get a grip on this team. It's also hard for Larry Johnson to get a grip on his mouth. The running back was sent home this week.

28. Detroit Lions - 3.535

A match-up for the ages. Lions-Rams this weekend. I'll be tuning in. The Lions are certainly better this year, and are looking at a bright future with Stafford and Johnson.

29. Cleveland Browns - (-1.39)

They looked absolutely terrible against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. There really are no bright spots on this team since Edwards was dealt to New York. Look forward to the draft Cleveland.

30. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - (-11.167)

Josh Freeman should be getting his opportunity after the bye week when the Bucs take on Green Bay. Fans may be sick of losing, but you don't want to ruin the confidence of the young man, because he certainly won't be winning.

31. Tennessee Titans - (-11.738)

Absolutely dreadful. They got absolutely man-handled at the hands of the Patriots two weeks ago, and it may be Vince Young time in Tennessee again.

32. St. Louis Rams - (-16.348)

The worst team in the league hands down. If they lose this week to the Detroit Lions, the schedule gets tougher as we go on and they could be staring at a win less season.
