Mort Says Shanahan Planned on Cutting Brandon Marshall

According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, Mike Shanahan had planned to cut disgruntled Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall, but was unable to make the move before he was fired. Apparently Shanahan was sick of Marshall, and even disclosed to former Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler that he believed Marshall cost the team more games than he helped them win.

Most thought that Marshall was acting out because he was upset that his coach had been fired. Well, that may be true. Perhaps he knew that he was going to be cut loose from Denver, or at least traded, because of how Shanahan felt. Perhaps he knew Shanahan was his ticket out of the Mile High city, and McDaniels has now ruined that.

Either way, it appears as though this Marshall-McDaniels situation goes a whole lot deeper than anyone really knows other than the guys within the Broncos organization. This is probably a story that won't have all the facts for a long time.

Marshall just needs to understand now that he's not going anywhere and if he wants his money next season that he'll just shut up and play.

On that note, Brandon Marshall is active for the Broncos game today, so things can't be all bad in Denver. Also, Kyle Orton is active and ready to go as well.
