Donovan McNabb Leaves Panthers Game With Fractured Rib

While the win today was great for the Philadelphia Eagles, there always seems to be some bad news popping up. Today's bad news comes in the form of a broken rib for Donovan McNabb.

McNabb broke the rib during a scamper into the endzone when Tyler Brayton landed on him after he had scored the touchdown. McNabb was down for a couple minutes, but then got up and walked off the field under his own power. Kevin Kolb replaced him for the remainder of the game.

McNabb went into the locker room, then came out and sat on the bench with his teammates before heading back into the locker room for further evaluation. He was in obvious pain, but not bad enough that he couldn't walk or crack jokes with everyone as he went back to the locker room.

While a broken rib is not something to be taken lightly, it's also not something big enough to force him to miss any time. He will have some discomfort when he throws the ball and when he takes hits, but after three or four weeks the rib should heal and the pain should subside entirely.

Hopefully this will force Reid to rely more heavily on Brian Westbrook and LeSean McCoy, but he's never done it before when McNabb has been injured, so there's not much reason to think he'll do it this time around. However, if Reid doesn't do it and forces McNabb to take more hits, the break could potentially get worse and cause some serious problems.

Expect McNabb to miss some practice this week, but to play against New Orleans next week with a heavy tape-job and some more padding around his midsection.
