Colts Workout Some Veteran Wide Receivers

The Colts assumed they would be fine at wide receiver after Marvin Harrison's departure with Reggie Wayne, Anthony Gonzalez, Pierre Garcon, and draft pick Austin Collie. However, with Gonzalez likely missing about a month, the Colts obviously do not feel comfortable with Garcon or Collie as their second receiver.

In response to the news that Gonzalez will miss significant time, the Colts began working out some veteran wide receivers. Wide receivers D.J. Hackett, David Patten, and Chad Jackson were in Indianapolis to work out for Coach Jim Caldwell. As of now, no contracts have been offered.

Hank Baskett is another guy the Colts could target, but he's most likely to go to a team like Baltimore, St. Louis, or Minnesota with a coach he knows a little.

Obviously Jon Harbaugh was a special teams coordinator and secondary coach in Philadelphia, Pat Shurmur is now the Rams offensive coordinator and was a quarterbacks coach in Philadelphia, and of course Brad Childress was the Eagles offensive coordinator.

Baskett has cleared waivers, so he's free to sign with whomever he chooses.

But if the Colts really need a wide receiver, and the release was a mutual agreement, why not simply re-sign Marvin Harrison?
