A.J. Feeley Will Supplant Jake Delhomme as Starter

A.J. Feeley recently turned down an offer from the Philadelphia Eagles to return as a backup to Donovan McNabb after being released just a short time ago. Instead, he decided to sign with the Carolina Panthers. So why would he turn down an opportunity to return to his former team to be a backup elsewhere? Simple -- he doesn't plan on being a backup.

The Panthers said something to him that caused him spurn efforts by the Eagles to get him back in Philadelphia, and the only thing they could have said is that he'll have the opportunity to challenge Jake "daylight come and me wanna" Delhomme for the starting spot.

John Fox can say Delhomme is his quarterback until he's blue in the face, but it won't prevent him from yanking him the next time he throws a pick in favor of Feeley.

Oddly enough, Feeley has a tendency to throw interceptions, but they're not those ugly interceptions that Delhomme will throw. Feeley throws picks because he's trying to make a play, whereas Delhomme throws picks when pressure gets into his face and he panics.

With A.J. Feeley adding a passing game for the Panthers and handing off to the best 1-2 punch in the league, Carolina could get back into the NFC South race. Right now, even after the first week, they're light-years behind the Falcons and even the Saints.

Look for Delhomme to become the backup to the career backup very soon.
