Owens, who played last season for the Buffalo Bills, was in Cincinnati for a visit with Head Coach Marvin Lewis. All indications point to the visit going smoothly and everyone liking what they heard.
Ochocinco has been claiming since the Pro-Bowl that Owens would be joining him in 2010. It made sense then, and it makes even more sense now.
Even after a down year in Buffalo, there's no denying what kind of presence Owens brings to the field. Just hearing that name will make a a defensive coordinator (and PR rep) cringe. You must take the Buffalo year with a grain of salt because Owens was forced to catch passes from Trent Edwards and Ryan Fitzpatrick.
The future Hall of Famer would give the Bengals a legitimate number two option for the first time since losing TJ Houshmandzadeh last off-season to free agency. While Houshmandzadeh did some good things, his season in Seattle proved that he and Ochocinco complemented each other, and even a 36 year old T.O. will bring more to the field on Sunday than Housh does now.
Most of the big names are off of the market, which will open the headlines for Owens, who we all know loves to see his name plastered all over every piece of media imaginable.
Owens name has recently been tossed in with the Philadelphia Eagles, but I don't expect anything to become of that. Donovan McNabb and Owens have mended their friendship, but Owens will ultimately be a Bengal.
T.O. will meet with a few more guys including Offensive Coordinator, Wide Receiver Coach, and Team Owner Mike Brown, tomorrow morning.
The number crunching should start then, and we should see a contract signed by the end of the week. Chad and Owens will finally get what they've been putting out there since the Pro-Bowl week, and the Bengals should find themselves back int he playoffs in 2010 poised for a Super Bowl run.
