"I don't get paid like a rotation guy," Porter said. "So I'm not ready to take that role. I'm still a starter. I can honestly say I won't come back to do that. Why keep a guy there that you want to make a role player?"
What Porter doesn't seem to understand is that at 33 years old with declining abilities, he is now nothing more than a very good role player, but a below-average starter on most teams.
He can't accept that he simply is not the same devastating player that he was in Pittsburgh, or even at recently as last season when he racked up an impressive 17.5 sacks.
Porter is due about $6 million per season, so there will not be many teams calling the Dolphins to offer a trade. There is, however, one team that could welcome him with open arms, as they do many former stars now past their prime.
Those of you who guessed the Oakland Raiders, it's a good guess but they don't run a 3-4 so they're out.
If you guessed the Washington Redskins, expect a call from Danny Snyder. He'd like to pay you $10 million per year to be his personal fortune-teller.
Rumor has it that the Redskins will be switching to a 3-4 defense under new defensive coordinator Jim Haslett, so they will need an outside linebacker to play opposite Brian Orakpo.
Rocky McIntosh would probably be the guy to move into the inside next to London Fletcher, leaving an opening for a guy like Porter to come in and help the Redskins in their transition.
