Taylor Mays Runs Unofficial 4.24 Forty-Yard Dash at Combine

Sitting here watching NFL Network's Scouting Combine coverage, I was in complete shock to see that Taylor Mays (at 6'3, 230) ran a 4.24 unofficially in the forty-yard dash.

A lot has been made of Mays' inability to cover receivers in the middle of the field, but with as fast as he's shown he is, Mays could have just vaulted himself into the top ten. Teams are going to see that physical ability and think they can find a place for him somewhere on their defense.

He's big enough that he could probably move up and place outside linebacker, but after running what will officially be a sub-4.3 forty (unofficial 4.24 will probably be around a 4.29 officially), he may be able to be an elite free safety after all.

He may not have vaulted himself into the top ten in the eyes of the NFL scouts, but he certainly won't make it out of the top 15.

UPDATE: Mays officially ran a 4.43. That's right, a 4.43. Whoever was holding that stopwatch needs a demotion, at the very least.
