Lions Shopping 2nd Overall and LB Ernie Sims?

According to Jason La Canfora, the Lions have been actively pursuing a trade partner for their number two overall pick in this April's NFL Draft.

It seems like an unlikely move for a few reasons.

If you are to trade up into that spot, you are now about to play a young, unproven player an amount of money that is usually reserved for proven and established veterans.

It is possible that a contender, or borderline contender could see the widely accepted top two players in Gerald McCoy and Ndamukong Suh as the guy that launches them into the elite group of teams, but you will not know who the Rams are going to take for a few months.

Not to mention the asking price of the Lions to pry that number two pick out of their hands. You know you're losing at least a first and a third at the least to take a chance on a guy. Then add the out of this world contract he will receive.

The Lions will continue to dangle the pick, and some teams will circle around the idea, but come draft time, the Lions will be drafting in that spot.

The Lions are also said to have received calls for their WILL linebacker, Ernie Sims.

Another move, unfortunately for those, that will ultimately not happen.

The number nine overall pick of the Lions in 2006, Sims has been an anchor in a pretty below average defense.

Sims has totaled over 110 tackles in each of his first three seasons. With 125 in his rookie season, and following up that performance with 134 in his sophomore season.

Even after a down year in 2009, the Lions are still counting on him to be their anchor and defensive leader. Unless a team vastly over-compensates the Lions, Sims will remain in Detroit in 2010.
