Jamal Lewis Might Reconsider His Plans of Retirement

Now that the Browns have released Jamal Lewis, most feel that he will announce his retirement and that will be that. However, if he gave the Browns the sense that he was just going to retire anyway, why would they release him?

Something tells me that Lewis feels as though he might still have a little bit left in the tank, and that his talk of retirement was more out of frustration than an actual want or desire to leave the game behind.

Lewis is going to be 31, and does have a lot of wear and tear from his years as a Raven, but outside of last season he has three consecutive 1,000 yard seasons, all of which were on sub-par teams behind some questionable lines.

He only saw action in nine games last season because of injuries, and has had back-to-back years of less than four yards per carry, but he could have some valuable as a short-yardage change-of-pace back.

He could still retire, but something tells me that he will float around in free agency for a while and see if any contenders come calling. If a team like the New England Patriots comes calling, it might be hard for him to turn down one last shot at getting a ring.

But if his only offers are from bottom-of-the-barrel teams with a long way to go, he may view retirement as his best option after a career riddled with some concussion issues.
