Brian Westbrook Says He's Not Ready to Retire, Eagle or Not

While talking to Dan Rather (yeah, Dan Rather) on his show on HDNet, Brian Westbrook reiterated that there is absolutely no chance that he retires.

"I'm a hundred percent sure that I wouldn't hang it up before [starting offseason training] unless something crazy happens," Westbrook said. "My goal is to get back out there and play football again. That's what I'm gonna train this offseason to do.

That's what I'm gonna put everything that I can into be able to do next year, is to go out there and play football at a high level. That's my goal and that's what I'm planning on doing."

Westbrook says that he wants to stay in Philadelphia, but he's not a dumb guy. That Villanova education has him well aware that there is no chance he makes the $7.25 million he's slated to make next season.

He won't make that in Philly, and he won't make it anywhere else.

The Eagles would probably love to keep Westbrook, but it will only be for the right price. If he's willing to take a pay cut that will pay him like a backup running back, then there's a good chance that he will stay. If not, he'll be reluctantly shown the door.

He could see an opportunity to make some money on the free agent market if and when the Eagles cut him considering the free agent pool for running backs (or any other position) will be very slim. However, he might just realize that Philly is the best place for him to be and take the pay cut.
