Clements Not Starting For Niners

Nate Clements may play most of the game this Sunday, but he will not find himself on the field to start the game.

The San Francisco 49ers will not start Nate Clements when they take on the Indianapolis Colts tomorrow, and will instead, start Tarrell Brown.

49ers coaches have told reporters that Clements does not match-up as well as Brown does with the Colts smaller receivers like Reggie Wayne. If that helps you sleep at night.

The fact of the matter, no matter how you say it to the media, or to the team, that's $80 million dollars sitting on the bench while you take on maybe the best team in the NFL. If that's not telling of the lack of faith in Nate Clements, I don't know what it will take.

Shawntae Spencer will start opposite of Brown, and he has recovered very well from ACL surgery.

Now, in reality, Clements deal is a seven-year, $64 million dollar deal, but the 49ers placed an extra year on that to make it $80 million if Clements met outrageous incentives that he would never reach.

It was just in place so that Clements could be the highest paid defensive player, at the time.

This is only the third year of that contract, and Clements may not make it into the fourth year of it.

He is due to make $6 million dollars next season, and with the way he has played in his first two seasons with this deal, he is not worth it.
